An ethnic, contemporary, fusion dance theater company inspired by ancient dance from the Near East and North Africa, as well as that of Spain, India, and Latin America, with jazz, ballet, contemporary movement and theater. The Collective’s global fusion works blend ancient and traditional movements with contemporary and expressionistic dance vocabulary and, most recently, cabaret theater dance transcending labels. Guest artists and choreographers are invited to the Collective to showcase their works as well as perform its repertory. The Collective will be receiving 501c3 status in 2008.
In June 2007, DCDC was invited to collaborate with Lori Bellilove of The Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation in New York City to perform a new work of Ms. Bellilove’s premier at the Alvin Ailey Theater “The Red Thread.” In October of 2007, Ms. Carella was commissioned by Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) in New York City to create a new work, and be part of their Choreographers’ Series produced at the Dance New Amsterdam Theater. The new work entitled “Badawiyat” is a “work in progress” and will be performed in 2008 by the DCDC.
